| An association for native-speaker English language trainers in France |
The Aims of The Language Network
There are several thousand native English speakers teaching English as a foreign language in France. Most of these teachers are employed in private language schools or in higher education establishments (universities, business schools or ‘grandes écoles’). A much smaller number are working in public or private secondary schools. Until the creation of The Language Network association in 2001, there was no single organisation which native English teachers could contact to obtain clear, up-to-date information about the profession. The Language Network aims to fill that gap by providing all the vital information that either a person new to the sector or a practising teacher could need. We believe that all teachers should be given access to information which will help them to make informed career choices and to manage their TEFL careers in France in the best way possible.
The Language Network’s role is to study closely employment opportunities, French employment law, specific rules governing the language sector, rates of pay being practised and general trends. This information is gleaned through our contacts with the schools using our recruitment service, through our consultants specialised in the language training sector and through our members themselves.
Since its creation, The Language Network has also been trying to inform both individuals and companies about the lack of quality found in certain language training organisations where English teachers are undervalued, underpaid and consequently not able to give the best of themselves. Over the past 6 years, we have felt a growing interest among professionals for alternative solutions which will deliver better results than they have seen with some of the traditional language training organisations.
The Language Network, which was founded by a group of self-employed English trainers, is also especially committed to helping independent language trainers by offering them missions and by giving them the opportunity to meet and to network with other independent trainers.
